Upgrade Paths

Suggested Migration Sequence

Start migration without transports in separate copy of productive environment
Start migration in Development environment
Copy productive environment to test environment and import customizing requests from development system
Migrate test environment, correct the errors found directly in Production environment.
Repeat step 3 and 4 and test migration again
Migrate productive environment after successful test migration

Migration from New G/L perspective

Simple Finance Add-on is very similar to New G/L in terms of the functionality
It provides the same capabilities as new G/L
It is further optimized for SAP HANA i.e. No totals and index tables, convergence with CO, better reporting etc.

Migration from Classic G/L

Following scenarios are not supported
Document Splitting
Balance Sheet at Profit Center level
Ledger approach based Parallel Accounting
Segment Reporting
Addition of Customer Fields

Following scenarios are supported

Reconciliation between Financial Accounting and Controlling

Cost of Sales Accounting – No separate COS ledger needed

Change Management

Have a good understanding of full scope, not just technical description of required customizing and migration
Train end-users on delta part
Have a time schedule that allow many test migrations
Check authorizations during acceptance tests
Involve auditors or compliance experts

Duration of Migration Project

Factors that can affect the duration are

Quality of Data
Size of system

Test migration is the best input for calculation of duration and potential challenges during the migration project

Preparation for FI, CO

Ensure all Balance have been carried forward for the current fiscal year
Execute Delta upload to SAP BW for Account based CO-PA
In case of Classic G/L: Initialize valuation differences from currency valuation. Field BSEG_BDIFF in open items has to be empty over all years
If not, create a new valuation method and reset valuation before installation of Simple Finance Add-on
New Foreign currency valuation run after migration has to be in same period
Pre Check for GL and CO settings for upgrade, SAP Note 2129306

Summary

Preparation phase has to be given high importance as there are very few possibilities for correction after the installation of Simple Finance
Involve all key stakeholders to verify data for the acceptance for migration
Clean out all the inconsistencies between different sub-modules
